5 Tips for Attending a Trade Show

Attending a trade show is an effective way to create brand awareness, collect leads and study the latest trends in your industry. Whether you’re a trade show veteran or a first timer, these tips will help you get the best return on your investment.

1. Your goals

You need to know your purpose and goals for attending the trade show, whether it’s to introduce a new product, promote your company name or sell your products.

2. Registering for a trade show booth

When you sign up for the trade show, you need to find out if there are any registration and booth fees. You also need to find out everything you can about your space including how large the space is, where in the trade show it is and what exhibits will be next to your booth. You should also find out if your booth is in a high or low traffic area, the type of exhibit equipment that is prohibited and if you can bring your own lighting. This information will help you make better decisions about the trade show display you purchase.

3. Making your budget

You need to make a budget and a list of the trade show equipment you’ll need. Choosing your trade show display can be a daunting task, you should either speak to a co-worker who has more experience or hire a marketing/tradeshow company to help you create your display. Consider the image that you want your booth to convey and the equipment you’ll need whether its banners, folding tables, table throws, counter- case, literature racks or pop-up displays. You also need to purchase graphics and printed collateral that is customized for your company. The graphics you create should compel your audience to visit your booth. Plus, you need to decide on whether you want to have demonstrations, promotional items or a raffle at your booth to draw an audience.

4. Invite your customers and prospects to the show

You should notify your existing, past and prospective customers, vendors and business associates that you’re attending the trade show and invite them to come check out your booth.

5. Hotel accommodations and traveling

To ensure that your trade show display is protected from the abuses of shipping you should invest in shipping cases.  They are strong and sturdy enough to protect your trade show display, unlike cardboard boxes. And, make sure you book a hotel that is close to the trade show venue, possibly one that is within walking distance. Once you’ve done all this, you can take a minute to relax.
