In an effort to spread awareness about their latest product, Google Voice, Google has began to install place old-fashioned red phone booths at airports and universities around the country. Users at the chosen locations will have the opportunity to use Google Voice to make free calls, no account required, to anyone in the USA and Canada.

The Google Voice phone booths combines a classic method of placing calls and a stylized old-fashioned look that is sure to grab everyone’s attention. Plus, the promotion is free which is sure to entice more people to try it. (more…)

Facebook Places: The Next Step in Online Social Networking

Facebook has taken over just about every aspect of online social networking. With nearly half a billion users you may be wondering if Facebook can take online social networking even further. The answer is yes! Facebook has now integrated a brand new tool already being used by other social networks. On Wednesday August 18th Facebook announced that they would be launching Facebook Places, which is a similar service to Foursquare and Gowalla. This service allows you to use your smart phone’s GPS to announce your presence at various venues by “Checking in.” This application takes your online social interaction and links it to an actual place. So once your status is posted your friends can see if you’re nearby, what you’re doing and what you think about the place……..creating a trail that enables friends to see what you did days or even years ago. Eat, Pray, Love: A Marketers Dream

When it comes to children movies, merchandise tie-in isn’t a new story it’s even expected. What would kids do without their movie collectibles from McDonald’s and books from Walmart. But merchandise tie-in for movies for adults, specifically women, is a more recent phenomenon. Although there were “Sex and the City 2” vodka, sunglasses, jewelry and even thong panties, but it didn’t get its very own weekend on the Home Shopping Network.

A week before the movie premiered in theaters, August 13th, was the Eat, Pray, Love weekend on HSN. They presented Eat, Pray, Love themed items consisting of over 400 beauty, home décor, travel and jewelry products inspired by the three countries, Italy, India and Bali, featured in the movie. In addition, there was a jewelry and home accessories line at Cost Plus World Market and themed travel tours. (more…)
